ABS round rod is an economical, easy-machining plastic stock for prototype parts, fixtures, and general-purpose components. Extruded from tough ABS resin, it combines good impact strength, high rigidity, and excellent dimensional stability with a machinability that rivals more expensive engineering plastics. ABS rod turns, mills, drills, and taps cleanly on standard shop equipment with minimal tool wear and clean chip formation, and it bonds reliably with solvent cement or standard adhesives.
Because it machines fast and costs less than acetal or nylon, ABS rod is a go-to choice for prototyping, pattern and model work, jigs and fixtures, spacers, handles, knobs, and low-load bushings and rollers. Natural ABS accepts paint and dye well for finished or color-matched parts, while black ABS offers better resistance to UV exposure. ABS is suitable for continuous service to roughly 160°F and is not recommended for prolonged outdoor use or contact with strong solvents. Custom cut lengths are available to reduce material waste and shop cut time.
