Abrasion resistant acrylic sheet pairs the optical clarity and impact strength of standard acrylic with a hard-coated surface that resists scratching, scuffing, and chemical attack far better than uncoated sheet. The cured coating dramatically improves resistance to cleaning cycles, wind-blown grit, and repeated handling — the failure modes that cloud ordinary acrylic glazing over time — while maintaining roughly 92% light transmission and excellent optical quality. Available in one-sided and two-sided coated versions: the one-sided grade protects the exposed face for glazing, framing, and covers where the back is enclosed, while the two-sided grade guards both surfaces for applications exposed on either side or handled repeatedly during service.
Abrasion resistant acrylic is the standard specification for machine guards and safety shields, instrument and gauge covers, museum and retail display cases, POP fixtures, picture framing and artwork glazing, transit and vehicle glazing, skylights and windows, and any panel that gets cleaned frequently. It offers the same weight advantage and impact resistance over glass as standard acrylic with far better scratch life in service, reducing replacement frequency and total cost. Fabrication differs from uncoated sheet in one important respect: the hard coating is less forgiving during cutting, drilling, and forming, so use sharp tooling, proper feeds, and follow the manufacturer's guidance — most coated grades have limited or no thermoforming capability, and coated surfaces should not be solvent-bonded.
