The PoliCarb® Aluminum "U" profile is a metal end-closure that caps the open edge of a multiwall polycarbonate panel, sealing the flutes against dust, insects, and moisture while adding a durable finished edge. It serves the same function as the polycarbonate PC "U" profile but in aluminum, which resists impact and abrasion at exposed edges, holds its shape under handling, and gives the assembly a crisper architectural line. Aluminum also stands up to jobsite abuse during installation better than a plastic closure. Available for 8mm, 10mm, and 16mm panel thicknesses.
Aluminum "U" profiles are specified at the top and bottom panel edges on installations where appearance or durability justifies the upgrade — architectural canopies and entries, storefronts and vertical glazing, transit shelters, stadium and institutional structures, and any assembly at reachable height where a plastic edge cap would take damage. Installation sequence is the same as with the PC profile: apply solid sealing tape to the upper panel edge and breathable anti-dust tape to the lower edge, then fit the U profile over the taped ends so trapped condensation vents downward rather than collecting in the flutes, and weep the bottom profile on sloped glazing. Because aluminum and polycarbonate expand at different rates, allow for differential movement rather than fastening the closure tight to the panel. Pair with the balance of the PoliCarb accessory system — Corner "R", Flashing "F", PC Connector "H", PC "U" profiles, and the Poli-Lok® aluminum glazing system.
