Gallina PoliCarb® 5-wall polycarbonate is a 16mm (0.63") multiwall sheet whose five-layer structure creates four insulating air chambers, delivering a U-value of 0.360 and an R-factor of 2.778 — substantially better thermal performance than twin or triple wall at a weight of just 0.63 lbs per square foot. That combination of insulation and light weight makes 5-wall the practical specification for conditioned spaces, larger spans, and climates where heat loss through glazing drives operating cost. Co-extruded UV protection on the exterior face resists yellowing and surface degradation through years of direct sun, and polycarbonate's near-unbreakable impact strength stands up to hail and impact loads that would destroy glass.
Available in clear, bronze, and opal, the color choice sets both daylight level and solar control — opal transmits approximately 40% for soft, evenly diffused light with no hot spots or glare, while clear maximizes daylight and bronze moderates heat gain. Typical applications include roofing and skylights, vertical glazing and window systems, canopies and covered walkways, pool and patio enclosures, greenhouses, storm and hurricane panels, and interior false ceilings and partitions. Panels join with aluminum H-profiles and are sealed at the edges with U-profiles and the appropriate breathable and solid tapes; plan for thermal expansion at fasteners and maintain a minimum 5% roof slope so water sheds properly and the flutes stay clear.
