King StarBoard® is the original marine-grade high-density polyethylene sheet and the sheet most boatbuilders mean when they say “starboard”. It is produced by King’s K-Stran™ process for flatness and thickness consistency across the sheet, and carries a matte finish on both faces. Environmentally stabilised for harsh outdoor exposure, it will not rust, delaminate or rot in UV, humidity or water, and the colour runs through the full thickness so it never needs painting or refinishing. Density is 0.955 g/cc with a Shore D durometer of 68.
It works like wood and cuts, routs, drills and screws with ordinary woodworking tooling, which is why it replaces marine plywood in bow pulpits, hatches and doors, frames and trim, grab rails, rod and cup holders, steps and dock boxes, countertops, tray tables and furniture. Screw and nail withdrawal is rated 657 and 63 lbs. It is made entirely from FDA and USDA approved material and meets ASTM D4976, with no BPA or phthalates in the raw material. Note the 48" x 96" sheet is stocked in black and white/white only below 1-1/2"; the full colour range comes on the 54" x 96" sheet.
