PEEK Classix Rod

Polyetheretherketone

Biocompatible PEEK with USP Class VI raw material and ISO 10993 testing on the stock shape itself, batch to batch. For temporary dental abutments, drug delivery and short-contact instruments. Assessed to 30 days of tissue contact - it is not an implant grade.

  • Classix is a biocompatible PEEK made from a resin developed specifically for medical work, sitting between the long-term implant grades and ordinary industrial PEEK. The raw material carries USP Class VI, and the stock shape is tested to ISO 10993 - cytotoxicity, sensitisation, human blood compatibility and physicochemical - with batch-to-batch testing on the shapes rather than just the resin. Origin is animal-free, traceability runs from resin to bar, and it sterilises by steam, dry heat, ethylene oxide, plasma and gamma. It is supplied cream white.

It is machined into temporary dental abutments, drug delivery components, blood management parts and short-contact surgical instruments. Published properties are 16,700 psi tensile strength at yield on a 667,000 psi modulus, 25,400 psi flexural strength, Rockwell M105 hardness, a 302F glass transition and a 644F melting point. The limit that matters most is contact duration: both shape makers assess it for up to 30 days of body or tissue contact, and both state in terms that it is not for permanently implanted or life-sustaining devices. A permanent implant needs a different grade. Note too that the published properties are metric and converted, as no ASTM-unit datasheet is issued for this grade.
