AR2 polycarbonate sheet combines the extraordinary impact strength of polycarbonate with a hard surface coating applied to both faces, solving the material's one significant weakness. Uncoated polycarbonate scratches easily — the same toughness that makes it virtually unbreakable leaves a soft surface that clouds under cleaning, handling, and wind-blown grit. The cured abrasion resistant coating dramatically improves resistance to scratching, scuffing, and chemical attack while preserving roughly 86% light transmission and optical clarity. The two-sided version protects both faces, making it the correct specification for glazing exposed or handled on both sides, or where installers cannot be relied on to track panel orientation.
AR2 polycarbonate is specified for machine guards and safety shields, security and detention glazing, transit shelters and vehicle windows, riot shields and protective barriers, hockey rink and sports facility glazing, instrument and equipment covers, cleanroom and laboratory panels, and skylights and architectural glazing that gets cleaned frequently. It offers roughly 250 times the impact resistance of glass and 30 times that of acrylic at half the weight of glass, which is why it dominates applications where breakage means injury. Fabrication differs from uncoated sheet in important ways: the hard coating is less forgiving during cutting and drilling, so use sharp tooling and proper feeds, and most coated grades have limited or no cold-forming and thermoforming capability. Verify formability with the manufacturer before specifying AR2 for a curved application.
