This is calendered stock - the filled PEEK is drawn between heated precision rollers into flat sheet of consistent thickness with a smooth finish on both faces, rather than machined from plate. Two gauges are stocked, .060" and .080", in sizes from 12"x12" to 24"x48". The ceramic filler package makes this the stiffest and hardest of the thin PEEK options, and also the most abrasive to punch and cut tooling, so expect shorter tool life than with unfilled PEEK.
Ceramic-filled PEEK in thin section is used where a part must stay dimensionally stable and wear-resistant at temperature and under load: seal faces, thrust and wear washers, insulating and bearing pads, valve components and precision shims in semiconductor process equipment, aerospace, chemical handling and high-temperature mechanical assemblies. The filler raises compressive strength, stiffness and creep resistance over unfilled PEEK and improves dimensional stability through thermal cycling, at the cost of toughness - it is less forgiving of impact and sharp internal corners than natural PEEK.
