TECAPEEK® MT is unfilled medical-grade polyetheretherketone, a semi-crystalline high-performance thermoplastic supplied here in pigmented colors. Tensile strength at yield is 16,000 psi at 73°F with 30% elongation at break, flexural strength 26,000 psi, tensile modulus 650,000 psi and compressive strength 20,000 psi - a rare combination of strength and ductility at this temperature class. Heat deflection temperature is 320°F at 264 psi, maximum long-term service 480°F, short-term 572°F and melting point 633°F. Moisture absorption is 0.02% in 24 hours and 0.45% at saturation, and the coefficient of linear thermal expansion is 2.5 x 10-5 in/in/°F. It is hydrolysis and superheated-steam resistant.
The grade is built for reusable medical devices: instrument handles and shafts, trial implants, dental components, sterilization tray hardware, endoscopic and arthroscopic parts, plus pharmaceutical and food technology equipment. Stock shapes are tested for biocompatibility to ISO 10993-1, -4, -5 and -18 for contact of up to 24 hours with skin and tissue and indirect blood contact, and the material is documented at over 1,500 steam sterilization cycles at 134°C without significant property loss. Pigmented colors support set identification. Machine with sharp carbide tooling and anneal for tight-tolerance work. Limitations: notch-sensitive at sharp corners, degraded by UV, attacked by concentrated sulfuric acid; the tested scope does not cover long-term implantation.
